Ras Al-Khaimah is the best getaway in the city of many locals from Dubai. The northernmost region of the United Arab Emirates, is backed by the powerful Hajar mountains, which fall dramatically towards the shore, making it an ideal base for exploring and sightseeing in a rugged area.
Historically, this region is very important, since archaeological excavations reveal that this area has been inhabited since the third millennium BC. The Ras Al-Khaimah National Museum does an excellent job explaining this far-reaching history.
Although much of the city is modern, the wonderfully atmospheric area of Jazirat al-Hamra is one of the main tourist attractions, as it gives you an idea of the peaceful Emirati life of divers and fishermen before the mid-century oil boom XX.
Jebel Al Mebrah
The highest peak of UAE. A tall mountain elevating at a height of 1,727 meters (5,666 feet), the Jebel Al Mebrah encompasses a summit which is home to a military station. Along its winding trails and rugged pathways lie several smaller villages and settlements, though the mountain remains inaccessible to the general public owing to the prevailing military presence. Despite the existence of mountains like Jebel Jais, the Jebel Al Mebrah is considered to have the highest peak.
